WHAT IS SMA?

The Student Marketing Association is SFU’s creative and innovative marketing-based student organization. Our focus is to bring together like-minded individuals who are interested in exploring the different areas of marketing and are seeking to gain experience and skills. Through a variety of programs and events, SFU SMA offers practical learning and leadership opportunities.

Executive Positions

Vice President of Corporate Relations

The Vice President of Corporate Relations is comfortable in professional settings and communicating with various industry professionals. This individual proactively collaborates with various executive members in understanding the external resources needed. They must be willing to learn and act on follow up protocols, networking, cold calling, and negotiation.


Vice President of Design

The Vice President of Design will generate visual content for branding and marketing purposes. This individual should be someone who understands SMA and REACH branding and is motivated to assist in the creative direction of SMA alongside the VP of Marketing. This individual will conceptualize how materials will be executed.


Vice President of Events

The Vice President of Events plays an active role in monitoring organizing committees towards the planning and execution of SMA’s signature pillar events and possible small-scale events. This individual should be familiar with the process of event planning and be ready to create new events aimed at increasing marketing value for students. This individual should have strong leadership skills and be able to confidentially train a team to execute every aspect of the events.


Vice President of Finance and Operations

The Vice President of Finance & Operations must be an organized and detail-oriented individual. This Vice President must be comfortable with managing finances by keeping record of all transactions and preparing budgets to pitch to key stakeholders and for the club’s records. They must be able to assess the current financial situation of the organization and make rational, conservative recommendations on monetary expenses. They must be motivated to learn the grant and room booking procedures within SFSS and be proactive in monitoring our financial situation to ensure sustained financial stability.


Vice President of Human Resources

The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for the recruitment cycle, managing organizational culture, and handling conflicts within the organization. This individual actively engages with club members through SMAmily Gatherings, socials, and social media.


Vice President of Marketing

The Vice President of Marketing has a role in the strategic development of SMA’s brand and ensuring its consistency across all channels with our missions and values. This individual will have the opportunity to conceptualize ideas and develop marketing plans for various campaigns, alongside a team of coordinators. This individual should also have an understanding of effective communication methods and strong social media skills for SMA and our events.


Vice President of Business Development

This is a partner role. The VPs of Business Development will work together to run the REACH Marketing Development Program. REACH is a semester-long program connecting SFU Students with local businesses, providing them with the opportunity to gain hands-on marketing experience. The VPs of Business Development will secure small local companies or start-ups each semester for the program and oversee/guide all teams. The VPs of Business Development will also be hosting weekly workshops where they will teach skills and concepts related to different areas of marketing.
